Attention Museum Synchronizer

Attention Museum Synchronizer (AMS) is the integration layer between Fylr and the collection management systems used by museums and archives. It lets institutions keep their catalogue records, vocabularies and digital assets aligned across systems without manual exports, hand-copied spreadsheets or duplicated curation work.

AMS plugs into the standard Attention scheduler and runs on whatever interval the institution chooses — typically nightly, but anything from minutes to weeks is supported. Every run is unattended: the connector talks to the museum system through its native API, applies a curated field mapping, and writes only what has changed since the previous run.

Why AMS

Museums rarely live in one tool. A typical setup pairs a collection management system (where the catalogue, provenance and curatorial work happen) with Fylr as the digital asset platform, where high-resolution masters, derivatives, rights information and publishing-ready renditions are stored and served. The two need to stay aligned, and that alignment is exactly what AMS automates:

  • Single source of truth, where it belongs. Catalogue metadata stays authoritative in the collection management system. Digital media and rich asset workflows stay authoritative in Fylr. AMS moves what each side needs, in the right direction.
  • No manual exports. Once configured, AMS runs unattended on the Attention scheduler. Catalogue updates land in Fylr automatically; enrichments produced in Fylr flow back to the museum system on the next run.
  • Built for incremental updates. Only records that changed since the previous successful run are exchanged, so daily synchronisation stays inexpensive even for very large collections.
  • Mapping you control. Field mappings are configured per connector in a simple table — pick the Fylr field, pick the corresponding field on the museum side, enable or disable rows individually. Mappings live with the scheduled job and can be edited at any time.
  • Asset transfer included. Where the museum system supports media attachments, AMS uploads the chosen Fylr rendition (preview, web, original, etc.) directly to the connected record. Configuration decides which rendition leaves the DAM.

Supported systems

imdas pro

imdas pro is the Informations- und Medienarchivsystem used by a large number of museums. AMS supports the two directions of traffic imdas pro exposes:

  • Catalogue import — pull catalogue objects out of imdas pro into Fylr, on a schedule.
  • Asset publishing — publish curated Fylr assets (with their metadata and a chosen rendition) back to imdas pro.

The two flows are configured independently, so an institution can adopt them in either order or use only one half if that is all the workflow requires.

MuseumPlus / Zetcom RIA

MuseumPlus is Zetcom's widely deployed museum collection management product (also known under the RIA product name). AMS connects to a MuseumPlus instance through one bidirectional job:

  • MuseumPlus Synchronisation — catalogue records flow from MuseumPlus into Fylr; digital assets, their metadata and their links back to catalogue records flow to MuseumPlus, all in one scheduled run.

Vocabularies maintained on the MuseumPlus side (categories, materials, techniques, classifications and so on) are mirrored into Fylr as well, so the same controlled vocabulary is available to Fylr editors and to anything downstream of Fylr.

Typical use cases

  • Daily catalogue refresh into the DAM. A nightly import keeps the Fylr-side mirror of the catalogue current, so editors browsing Fylr always work against today's data.
  • Born-in-Fylr enrichment, published back. Photography, 3D scans, condition reports and rights metadata are produced and reviewed in Fylr, then automatically published back to the museum system as soon as they are approved.
  • Vocabulary alignment. A controlled vocabulary maintained by the curator in the collection management system becomes available, fully localised, as a linked-object list in Fylr — no manual re-entry.
  • Multi-institution exchange. Several institutions sharing the same Fylr platform but using different collection management systems can all be served by the same AMS deployment, each with its own scheduled job and mapping.
  • One-off migrations. The full-update toggle lets AMS bootstrap a fresh Fylr installation with the entire content of an existing museum system in a single run.

Roadmap

The connector set is designed to grow. Additional collection management systems can be added on the same model. Customers interested in supporting a system not yet on the list are welcome to get in touch.

Licensing

AMS requires a license which needs to be installed with the License Manager.
